We are pleased to announce the publication of Research Integrity in the UK, the third Annual Statement of the UK Committee on Research Integrity. Alongside the annual statement, we have also published an Analysis of Annual Statements by Research Consulting, a report jointly commissioned by the Committee and the Research Integrity Concordat Signatories (RICS) Group.

The Committee extends its appreciation to the sector and everyone who contributes and continues to engage with our work. Thank you for your continued work to champion research integrity.

UK Committee on Research Integrity 2025 Annual Statement and Analysis of Research Integrity Annual Statements

Ensuring integrity in research is essential to maintaining the trust of researchers, users, and society, and is fundamental to the credibility of the research system. Integrity underpins trustworthy research and thereby enables research to deliver impact.

This 2025 annual statement outlines the core framework guiding UK research integrity. We present analysis of the latest available evidence about research integrity and share progress on the Committee’s ongoing work in two key areas: the implications of generative AI (GenAI) for research integrity, and the processes used to address research misconduct and poor research practices.

We also present an analysis of annual statements from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Government departments and Independent Research Organisations published between 2022-2024 following a previous iteration published in 2023. This analysis undertaken by Research Consulting and commissioned by the UK Committee on Research Integrity and Research Integrity Concordat Signatories (RICS) Group shows a maturing research integrity landscape across the UK and highlights a series of emerging trends and initiatives through a comprehensive collection of case studies.

All those involved in research have a role in ensuring research is carried out with integrity. The UK Committee on Research Integrity works across all research environments and disciplines to promote research integrity across the UK and in our international partnerships.
